JA Elementary Bands
The JA bands have been growing in quality and quantity each year, with nearly 90 students in the 4th-6th grade program this past year! Through participation in band, students gain confidence on their chosen instrument, experience the inclusion and pride of being a part of a team, and build on talents and experience for their future.
Instrument Fitting Night
Monday, August 7th, 12pm-4pm
This is for any 4th-6th graders new to band at JA.
Instrument fitting sign ups: www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0544acaa2cabfd0-2017
Please sign up for one 20 minute slot. Parent and student will come to the band room 5 minutes prior to the allotted time and wait by the band room door until greeted by one of the music teachers/helpers. It's helpful if the student comes with a couple of ideas of what they might like - you tube videos are great for this! Options are flute, clarinet, saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, percussion/bells.
Music and Arts (our fantastic local music store) will be at our Instrument Fitting Day so that you can sign rental agreements and get any books/supplies as well.
Band camp Saturday, August 26th, 9am-noon
This is for any students new to the band program, and new to their instruments. It is a totally free camp, and strongly strongly encouraged to attend. After check in/introductions, we take the students through team building games, instruction on their instruments with professional musicians, a group rehearsal, and a fun performance for their families. We follow all this with pizza and send them on their way. This is one of the highlights of the year for 4th graders!
Band classes occur during the school day, every 3rd day, going along with the regular specials schedule. Each grade level band also has before school rehearsals from 7:30am to 8:10am.
Before school rehearsal schedule
4th grade - Tuesdays
5th grade - Wednesdays
6th grade - Fridays
*1st semester, 5th and 6th grade meet every other week for before school rehearsals.
A students opts out of general music to be in band. Because of this we have a cap on participation, of 14 students per homeroom class. Hopefully this won't be an issue, but if so, we will hold a lottery for that home room class.
Students/parents will need to provide their own instrument and music book --
* Sound Innovations, book 1 for incoming 4th graders
* Standard of Excellence book 1 for incoming 5th-6th graders).
Music and Arts is a fabulous local music store that offers great prices on instruments, a rent to own program, and all the supplies/books needed.
